It’s the playoffs and it’s going to be a WHITE-OUT.
3. Library Blog Promotes Popular Reading Collection
The Popular Reading Collection, established in 2002 by the Chester Fritz Library and UND Student Government, recently received a boost of funding. The Chester Fritz Library budget had been maintaining the collection for several years, but a recent Student Senate bill provided one-time supplemental funding to expand the Collection.
The Chester Fritz Library has launched a new blog to promote the Popular Reading Collection and involve the UND community, especially students, using an interactive web tool. The Library is inviting students to join in the conversation with UND librarians, Janet and Kristen, about books in the Popular Reading Collection and literacy in general. There are also special sections such as "Author of the Month," new books, or most popular books. A comments area and book review section invite participation by students in the conversation. It is informal, fun and will inform students about the latest additions. The blog is also a vehicle to tell the Library what students want to see in the Collection. Students are encouraged to participate in the blog: http://popularlibrarians.blogspot.com4. Free Tax Assistance
Starting next week, the Public Interest Law Student Association (PILSA) will be providing free tax help to all students through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The VITA Program offers free tax help and free e-file to low- to moderate-income ($40,000 and below) individuals and their families who need help preparing their tax returns and is open to all students and members of the community. In addition to preparing federal income tax returns, assistance is also provided for state income tax returns and international student taxes. PILSA's VITA site will run every Tuesday and Thursday evening (except Spring Break) February 19 through April 10 from 6-8 pm at the University Apartment Community Center (525 Stanford Road). The following items should be brought to the site: Social Security card, all W-2, 2098, and 1099 forms, proof of identity, banking information for refund deposits, estimated tax payments made, amounts of other income, and your 2006 tax return (if available).
